Local school taken on a story-telling adventure for World Book Day
In celebration of World Book Day last week, Lovell Homes teamed up with Principality Building Society to treat pupils at Ysgol Pwll Coch Primary School in Canton to a reading of ‘Goose’s Cake Bake’ by Laura Wall.
The published bilingual story has been commissioned by Principality Building Society and was read to the children at Ysgol Pwll Coch in Welsh by Lovell commercial administrator Holly Evans.
The ‘Goose’s Cake Bake’ story follows a child who organises a bake sale to raise money and buy books for all her friends. Pupils at Ysgol Pwll Coch also participated in some activities following the story, aimed at helping them learn about decision-making, business and money.
The two lucky key stage 1 classes, with children aged 5 and 6, will now be able to read the book at school with copies of the book donated to the school library by Principality Building Society. They also each received a ‘Laura And Lenny Lovell safety on site’ colouring book and pack of crayons each courtesy of Lovell.
Christopher Newcombe, Head Teacher at Ysgol Pwll Coch Primary School, said: “We’re really grateful to Lovell and Principality for coming to our school in celebration of World Book Day. The children absolutely loved the story and had a great time. It was the perfect opportunity for them to get passionate about reading, and it’s had a huge impact on their learning.”
Karen Jones, Mortgage Advisor at Principality Building Society, said: “It was a pleasure to visit Ysgol Pwll Coch with Lovell for their World Book Day celebrations. As a mutual society, we are committed to supporting our local communities and working with schools is a key part of this. Goose’s Cake Bake teaches students valuable skills such as adopting good spending habits through an exciting storybook.”
Bernadette Vickery, community coordinator at Lovell, said: “We were thrilled to arrange this World Book Day event for the pupils at Ysgol Pwll Coch, which encouraged the children to have fun with their reading and writing.
“At Lovell it’s extremely important for us to focus on giving to the local communities in the areas that we build, and events like these give us the chance to make a positive difference.”
