South Wales homes developer Lovell strikes Gold in RoSPA safety awards

Cardiff-based partnership homes developer Lovell has struck Gold in the RoSPA Health and Safety awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK.

The achievement highlights the South Wales and South West region’s commitment to keeping workers and the public safe at its homes developments and offices.

“It is extremely pleasing to be chosen by RoSPA for a Gold Award in recognition of our strong health and safety practices and record,” says Lovell regional managing director Kate Rees.  “We put safety at the forefront of all our activities with everyone working to achieve the highest possible standards. I’m very proud to see this officially recognised by leading safety charity RoSPA.”

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, comments: “The RoSPA awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow each organisation to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.” The RoSPA Awards scheme recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Current Lovell projects in South Wales include The Mill, Canton, which has established a new urban village in West Cardiff. Its 800 homes will comprise 358 homes for open market sale by Lovell and 442 homes for rent which will be managed by Cadwyn Housing Association for Tirion Homes. The scheme is going ahead with the support of the Welsh Government and financial backing from the Principality Building Society, and is being developed by Tirion in partnership with Lovell. Construction has also just begun on a £25 million development, Ymyl Yr Afon, which will create 153 new homes at a former colliery site near Merthyr Tydfil. The old Merthyr Vale Colliery will be transformed with 110 two-, three- and four bedroom homes for open market sale by Lovell as well as 43 affordable houses and apartments which will be available through Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association.

Among other projects is Oakfield Grange, Cwmbran, a £13.6 million development of 55 houses for open market sale and 23 affordable rented homes on the former site of Llantarnam Community Primary School. The affordable properties are being developed in partnership with Bron Afon Community Housing.
