Lovell peak performance nets £3,300 for Cancer Research Wales
Hikers from Cardiff partnership homes developer Lovell battled driving winds and snow to raise more than £3,300 for Cancer Research Wales, tackling a night-time charity trek up South Wales’ highest peak.
A 19-strong team from the company’s South Wales and South West region – calling themselves the Lovell Lunatreks – successfully completed the 9km Brecon Beacons Night Hike, climbing 886m above sea level to the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons National Park.
“It was nigh-on pitch black as we picked our way through snow drifts with a fierce wind at the top taking temperatures down to minus three degrees,” says Lovell senior estimator Gary Pillinger.
“What is an exhilarating walk in the best of conditions became a challenge even for seasoned and fit walkers – and considerably more testing for some of us ‘desk dwellers’ - but the conditions made the personal achievement feel so much greater. We hit the summit just before 10pm and celebrated before a knee-crunching descent down the slippery slopes. A big thank-you to Cancer Research Wales and J T Expeditions for looking after us all so expertly and to the many supporters who generously contributed to our fundraising total.”
Lovell regional managing director Kate Rees adds: “Well done to our super-hardy team of walkers for achieving their goal despite difficult weather conditions. It’s fantastic to have raised such a substantial amount for the important work of Cancer Research Wales funding cutting-edge research in universities and hospitals across Wales. We’re incredibly grateful for the many donations received from family, friends, colleagues, supply chain partners and clients.”
