Growth and success continues at The Mill

Hi all, this is my first blog in which I will be writing in both Welsh and English for the foreseeable future. My name is Jac Evans and I am an Assistant Site Manager at The Mill. This blog will hopefully be able to give you an insight into how I got involved with The Mill and how the site is progressing.

Helo bawb, hwn yw’r blog cyntaf i mi ysgrifennu yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg. Fy enw yw Jac Evans ac rwy’n gweithio ‘Assistant Site Manager’ ar brosiect Y Felin sydd wedi ei leoli yn Canton. O fewn y blog yma gobeithiaf y gallaf roi ychydig o fewnwelediad i chi ar sut y gwnes i ddechrau fy nhaith ar y safle ynghyd â sut mae’r safle yn datblygu.

How I got involved with The Mill?

In September, I joined Lovell as a Graduate Site Manager, originally assisting with the preconstruction stage of development. Being a farmer’s son it took a lot of getting used to being sat behind a desk for most of the day! Having said this, the information I learnt in those months was invaluable and has served me well on site since the project became live. On the 14th of December 2016 I became the first Lovell member of staff permanently based on site, I was quick to warn the others to bring a warm coat down ready for the big start in January!

Sut ddes i’n glwm efo’r Felin?

Ym mis Medi, ymunais gyda chwmni Lovell a hynny fel ‘Graduate Site Manager’. Fel mab ffarm roedd hi’n anodd dod i'r arfer â gorfod eistedd tu ôl i ddesg am ran fwyaf o’r dydd! Ond, wedi dweud hyn, roedd y profiadau a’r wybodaeth a dderbyniais yn ystod y misoedd cyntaf o’ ngyrfa yn amhrisiadwy ac yn bendant wedi fy rhoi ar ben ffordd. Ar y 14eg o Ragfyr 2016, a’r gwaith ar fin dechrau fi oedd yr aelod cyntaf o staff parhaol Lovell i ddod i weithio ar y safle - Gwnes yn siŵr i rybuddio'r gweddill i ddod â chot gynnes yn barod i’r dechreuad mawr ym mis Ionawr!

Progress

The Mill is progressing well, the team is growing every month and it’s a great place to be. On site we naturally had a few teething issues, but those were ironed out quickly and we are delivering homes on schedule. We can’t wait to hand over our first property to its new owners, it will be a milestone for us to celebrate.

Y Cynnydd

Mae’r Felin yn datblygu yn dda, mae’r tîm yn tyfu bob mis ac mae’n lleoliad gwych i weithio. Rydym yn naturiol wedi wynebu rhai fan rwystrau ar ddechrau’r prosiect, ond fe ddatryswyd y rhain yn gyflym. Erbyn hyn rydym yn cyflwyno cartrefi ar amser a methu aros i drosglwyddo’r cartref cyntaf i’r perchnogion. Heb amheuaeth, mi fydd hyn yn dipyn o garreg filltir.

Sales update

Hi everyone, my name is Julie Bowen and I am the Regional Sales Director for Lovell. It has been an exciting few months at The Mill for the sales team.

Meet the sales team

Sales continue to grow and I am pleased to say that since we launched in April we have reserved a record number of 31 sales! I am also excited to welcome a new sales team at The Mill. Tracy who was recently promoted from sales executive to field sales manager will be heading up the team, Alyson joins us as senior sales executive and Elaine has joined the team as sales executive alongside Lorraine who has worked for Lovell for many years. All of the team are excited to be working at this exceptional development and they all come with a wealth of experience and expert knowledge. I am also pleased to announce a new role in the sales team - trainee sales executive. Linzi who has worked for Lovell’s commercial team for a couple of years now has taken a leap and changed career paths to join our sales team here at The Mill. This is a great opportunity for Linzi to learn and gain knowledge from experienced staff and progress her career in Lovell sales.

“It was a big decision to make, changing careers, but I have been doing the job a few weeks now and I love it! It was definitely the right decision to make. The role is so varied, no two days are ever the same and I really enjoy getting to meet different people every day,” says Linzi.

A big warm Lovell welcome to you all!

A round-up of what’s been happening

We have lots of news including the successful opening of the brand new marketing suite and show apartment in July. We held an official opening for all the partners behind The Mill including the Tirion Group, Cadwyn Housing Association, Welsh Government, Principality Building Society and Lovell to celebrate the success we have achieved in our partnership so far.

We also saw a hundred visitors and a number of sales at the successful launch weekend, where prospective purchasers and those who have already purchased a home with us, were given the opportunity to view the stylish modern interiors of the stunning two bedroom show apartment and marketing suite - it was lovely to hear so many positive comments!

View home opening

We are excited to open our three-storey Aspen view home on 12 August so that you can explore and experience the benefits of three-storey living. More space and increased options for designing your home to suit your needs are some of the reasons why these homes are so appealing to both families and couples. If you haven’t done so already, have a read of our latest blog on three-storey living and how a Lovell family are enjoying life in their three-storey home.

Coming soon

We are about to release for sale the last few homes that will be able to reserve and move into ready for Christmas! Yes I know, I know, I said the word...Christmas. Look out for news shortly on the latest releases and you could be celebrating the festive season in your brand new home at The Mill.

I know there are lots of you interested in the one and two bedroom apartments so I am pleased to say that we are planning on taking early-birds on these fantastic apartments very soon…watch this space.

We have had a fantastic few months and look forward to a few more!

Community and training news

As part of its community commitment, Lovell has been working closely with local schools including nearby Ysgol Treganna where pupils have been set a project to name one of the street’s at The Mill and we recently built a brand new footpath for them too.

Fitzalan High School students took part in the Lovell House constructions challenge and we arranged for students from Cantonian High School to visit the site, where they learned all about jobs in the construction industry following a careers talk with Lovell regional training advisor Darryl. Darryl and Bernie, our community coordinator, also visited four other local primary schools in the area during ‘open your eyes to careers week’ to talk about careers.

In July Lovell once again supported the popular Ely Festival where people could find out more about job opportunities, sales updates and to showcase all the community work that has been achieved so far in the area. It was a great day.

Four candidates who were taken on from the Princes Trust Get into Construction Programme have been bought a kit of tools each from funding through our partnership with Communities First in Cardiff and the Prices Trust will be recruiting for the second Get into Construction Programme scheduled for 23 October.

Work placement programmes through Job Centre Plus and Cardiff and Vale College will commence in September as will apprenticeships through our supply chain. Vacancies will be advertised through Communities Frist, Canton Job Centre and our website.

Thank you for your support! Keep up to date with The Mill and Join in the discussion over on our social channels on Twitter and Facebook where we’d love to hear your comments!
